Project description:
This MSc thesis investigates the technical feasibility of integrating a Flettner rotor on a jack-up vessel, with its primary focus on the conceptual development and structural integrity of the proposed design. This design aims to improve the overall propulsion of the vessel, contributing to a reduction in terms of fuel consumption and associated CO2 emissions.
OI’s scope of work:
- Fuel savings of Flettner rotor implementation
- Aerodynamic behaviour of a Flettner rotor
- Hydrodynamic resistance a jack-up vessel
- Rotor deployment strategy
- Power input rotor
- Concept design
- Rotor design criteria
- Rotor placement
- Material selection
- Quantified design selection process based on performance
- Structural analysis
- Loading conditions
- Failure mechanisms
