Shell – Ventura CO2 Pipeline

Shell – Ventura

Project description:

Shell performed a feasibility study for a CO2 pipeline to transport carbon dioxide waste from power plants in El Segundo (Los Angeles area) back to the Ventura oil fields. The carbon dioxide gas would be injected into the Ventura oil fields to increase. Shell was considering 2 options for the pipeline:

  • An offshore route through downtown Los Angeles
  • An offshore route along the California coast

OI Scope:

OI was contracted to perform the route design and feasibility for the offshore pipeline. The work consisted of the following:

  • Routing design and feasibility
    • Based on geohazards
    • Based on seismic activity
    • Based on Marine traffic
  • Advice on offshore installation spread and logistic/construction requirements
  • Cost Estimate for the offshore pipeline scope
